Every year, more foreign students choose Russia for their education. A huge number of universities and various programs attract students from all over the world. Foreign students come on a fee-based program, and some get on a quota system and learn on the budget.
Traditionally, our former compatriots from the former USSR and the CIS countries come to Russia. But the interest and demand for our education is also among citizens of Western Europe, the US, and South Korea. Despite today’s difficult global political environment and Russia’s withdrawal from the Bologna education system, the percentage of foreign students visiting continues to rise. 
For students in a number of countries, Russia allocates annual quotas for education. The quota can be obtained in advance by submitting an application to a consular post of the Russian Federation abroad.
The difficulties of getting to study in Russian higher education certainly are and they already begin in the process of enrollment. Not all applicants know Russian enough to even start an elementary correspondence with the university. The second significant problem is tuition fees. The payment systems VISA and Mastercard are not working in Russia, which creates additional difficulties.

Special attention would like to be paid to the issues of expulsion of foreign students from university. As we show in practice, in such a situation it is very difficult to fight oneself. Not always the expulsion from a university occurs justifiably and fairly. In unforeseen cases and under certain circumstances, a foreign student becomes hostage to a situation from which it is impossible to escape on their own. When leaving a university, the foreign student is given very little time to leave the country or change the situation. The main reasons for leaving are:

 University exclusion for failure and academic arrears
 expulsion from the university for administrative and disciplinary violations
 for decisions on criminal cases
 for overdue payment of tuition fees
 for migration violations
 for other reasons independent of the student

In our practice, the latter point is not rare and usually only through lawyers can the situation be changed. Often the basis for the last point is bad relations with teachers, conflicts with students, loss of documents or someone’s oversight.
