A temporary resident exit visa is issued to foreign nationals from visa-required countries after they have obtained a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) at their place of registration.

After obtaining a Temporary Residence Permit, a foreign national must obtain an exit visa in order to leave Russia. The exit visa for a temporary resident is a multiple-entry visa and is issued for the duration of the Temporary Residence Permit—3 years. Previously, for many years, TRP exit visas were single-entry, which created numerous problems for entrepreneurs and other categories of individuals who had to cross the border frequently. 

There are certain countries whose citizens do not need a visa after obtaining a TRP. Thanks to intergovernmental agreements with some countries, bilateral treaties have been signed that exempt temporarily residing persons from the process of obtaining an exit visa.

These countries include six Balkan nations: Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Macedonia

Three Schengen Agreement countries: Germany, Italy, and Poland

As of recently, a temporary residence permit (RVP) is once again not required for Turkish citizens. The situation regarding this country has changed several times over the past three years, and now the visa requirement for them has been lifted again.

A temporary residence visa (TRV) is processed at the Migration Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs within 21 days; in some regions, such as Moscow, it is issued on the day of application. You will need to provide copies of your documents and fill out a visa application form.

Options for Obtaining a Temporary Residence Visa.

In practice, there are two ways to obtain a temporary residence visa.

• If the TRP was issued in the country of residence, then through the consular section of the Russian Embassy, after a decision is made, the foreign citizen receives a single-entry visa to the Russian Federation, which is replaced with a multiple-entry visa upon arrival in Russia.
• If the TRP was obtained within Russia, the visa for the TRP is processed at the place of registration.
