What Should You Do After Receiving a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP)? What must a foreign national do after receiving a TRP stamp? There is a procedure that foreign nationals must be aware of, not only for obtaining a TRP but also after receiving it.
- After the TRP is stamped, there is no need to register with the migration authorities when crossing the border. After receiving a Temporary Residence Permit, you must temporarily register at your place of residence for a period of 3 years.
- After receiving a Temporary Residence Permit, citizens of visa-required countries must obtain a temporary resident exit visa, valid for 3 years, to cross the Russian Federation border.
- After obtaining a TRP, a foreign citizen is required to register for tax purposes within one week.
- After obtaining a Temporary Residence Permit, there is no need to apply for a work permit or patent.
- After obtaining a Temporary Residence Permit, a foreign citizen has the right to establish a legal entity as an “individual entrepreneur” (IE) or a limited liability company (LLC)
- After receiving a Temporary Residence Permit, a foreign citizen is exempt from conscription into military or civil service in the Russian Federation
- After obtaining a TRP, a foreign national cannot renew this status after 3 years have elapsed but is entitled to obtain a Residence Permit (RP). Applications for an RP may be submitted no earlier than 6 months after residing under the Temporary Residence Permit and no later than 6 months before the TRP expires
- If a passport is replaced or lost, a foreign citizen must contact the Migration Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, submit a free-form application, and have the stamps for the Temporary Residence Permit and registration at the place of residence affixed to the new passport
- After obtaining a TRP, a foreign national is eligible to apply for a Residence Permit as early as six months after receiving the TRP
- The status of a Temporary Residence Permit is not subject to renewal; the holder of this status may apply for a Residence Permit no later than 6 months before the expiration of the Temporary Residence Permit
- A foreign citizen holding a Temporary Residence Permit must reside in the Russian Federation for a total of at least 180 days per year; otherwise, if this circumstance is discovered, the holder may face revocation of their Temporary Residence Permit status
- A foreign citizen holding temporary residence status is required to notify the Migration Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia at their place of residence and registration annually, within two months after the end of the year following the date of issuance of the Temporary Residence Permit
- You must keep the annual notification forms. They will be required when applying for a residence permit or citizenship.
- If your application for a TRP is denied or the permit is revoked, you may reapply for a TRP no sooner than one year later.
- After receiving a TRP, foreign nationals have the right to move freely within the country.
- After obtaining a TRP, you are eligible to work only in the region where you received this status
- Once a Temporary Residence Permit is issued, this status does not grant its holder the right to work in government agencies with access to classified information
