Residence in the Russian Federation for Belarusians

Receipt of a residence permit in Russia for Belarusians or citizens of the Republic of Belarus is part of the preferential procedure for registration of residence permits. For Belarusians, the simplest scheme of obtaining a residence permit in the Russian Federation is provided, as well as citizenship of the Russian Federation. Belarusians, unlike other foreign citizens, do not need to have any grounds for obtaining a residence permit in Russia, not much so, they do not need to obtain a temporary residence permit, this saves at least a year for obtaining Russian citizenship. Any citizen of the Republic of Belarus, legally arriving in the territory of Russia, having means of subsistence and or official income, is entitled to submit documents for issuance of a residence permit in Russia.

This simplified procedure for the issuance of a residence permit for Belarusians is based on the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus to ensure equal rights of citizens of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus to freedom of movement, choice of place of stay and residence. The residence permit for citizens of Belarus in 2026 is issued indefinitely.

It takes 3 months for the issuance of a residence permit for Belarusians from the moment the documents are submitted to the district office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Citizens of Belarus, as citizens of the Union State, are exempt from passing the examination for knowledge of the Russian language and history. The main document that will be required when submitting documents for a residence permit is registration at the place of stay, certifying that the Belarusian citizen has where to be, in the process of obtaining a residence permit, as well as confirmation of his income.
